The semi-family outing

Ok, I was waiting for some beautiful pictures of Zion Canyon, where we went on our day trip, but my brother isn't sending them. So I will have to put them up whenever he gets his rear in gear and emails them to me. This makes me think I need to buy my own digi camera so I don't have to ask others. Anyway, the day started at about 11:00 a.m when my brother and his family came down from S.L.C to visit and haul my furniture back up there. We had 7 children all under the age of 11, you can just imagine! Oh my it was an adventurous trip. I give my mother more credit than I already did, she has 6 children. Of course the 7 children were split between my sister-in-law and her twin sister. They were all very sweet and well-behaved as much as a child can be right?!? We drove down to Zion Canyon about an hour away and decided to go on the Emerald Pools trail. My sister-in-law has a bad knee so we didn't want to go on a treacherous hike, and we thought this one wouldn't be too bad. We started the hike and it was uphill almost the entire time! It wasn't strenuous but it wasn't very pleasant either! There was a huge drop off that you could see into most of Zion Canyon which was SO beautiful! (Which is why I wanted the pics, ok I'll quit being disgruntled) After a while it started to drop downhill and it was actually a very beautiful trail and I am quite proud I was able to last considering I don't do a lot of hiking. It took us about 5 hours which included the lingering at the three pools. Those pools were gorgeous! They weren't very deep but still no one went in them because it would sanitize the water and you don't want to do that because it is drinking water for the animals that live in Zion. We didn't get home until about 11:00 at night because we went to eat afterwards. It was a great day!! I enjoyed being with my family and meeting new people. Again, as soon as I get pics I will post them. :)

Yay! Some of my family is visiting me!!!

So my brother and his family; which consist of an awesome sister-in-law, one neice and two nephews are coming to visit. I am very happy they are coming!! They sort of are coming to visit me to haul my living stuff up to storage before I move. They are mostly coming to visit my sister-in-law's twin sister though. It will be fun to see those little munchkins again. It has been quite a while. I still have to deconstruct all my furniture and bed. That'll be fun.

15 days and counting...

Just another day...or is it?

I woke up this morning thinking "Blah! Just another day sitting around waiting for this day to pass" (side note - I'm not normally like this. I just live in a small town for the moment with nothing to do. I'm not completely lazy.) I watched a little t.v, jumped online, made some pancakes. Just the usual things one does when bored, until my sister came home. I wanted to watch a movie and eat some pizza today and thought that would be my BIG DAY! My sister came home and we chatted for a bit then she went to take a shower. All the sudden my day got a bit more exciting (not to say this was exciting for the ones it happened to because it was sad) I heard a woman screaming outside knocking on people's doors "everyone get out, everyone get out" I ran out the door to see what was going on. To give a bit of background, I live in an apartment complex and my back door opens to the swimming pool and then beyond that about 50 feet there are more apartments. Ok back to story. I didn't see anyone getting hurt or whatever. I saw a cop car on the street next to my building but didn't think much of it since we get a lot of cops here. I walked a bit further and noticed smoke was coming from behind my building. I saw all these people standing around and put two and two together and ran back to my house and out my back door and yupe my fears were confirmed when I saw the apartment beyond the swimming pool engulfed in flames. It was VERY VERY scary to see. By this time my sister was with me and we thought the wind might blow the flames toward us so we grabbed some of our prized belongings and hauled them out to the car. We are a little overly cautious sometimes! But being not even 50 feet away with wind blowing I thought it was a good cautious. So after we sort of calmed down we went back outside and watched the brave firefighters do their magic. The fire was put out not 10 minutes later (but felt like years) but the firefighters stayed for a while longer making sure they put out all the hot spots. Everyone was standing around watching and hoping they could get back to their house soon. Unfornunatly most of those apartments have to be torn down due to water and fire damage.

This whole ordeal got me thinking. My first thought was, what if this happened to me? Would I be prepared? And as I went freaking out hauling my things to my car I noticed my "prized" possessions were my turtle and photography equipment. Now what does that say about me? I don't know, I guess I love those two things or just my photography stuff was very expensive and I couldn't imagine leaving a live being in a burning building. But there were so many things I wish I could have saved if this in fact had been my home on fire. So I have decided to document all of my belongings, whether big or small, and buy a fire safe. As well as buy a fire safe for all my family members for Christmas. I used to get annoyed at my fire detector going off all the time, but now I treasure it. My second thought was how amazing these firefighters are. If you have never seen a firefighter upclose and personal then you don't know how hard they work. I'm like the rest of you, I've seen them on t.v fighting a house fire or a field fire but I never really knew what they deal with. So I have vowed to give money everytime that boot comes around! They need to be paid more. Ok, that was my public service announcement for the day. Hehe!

One last note: I am sorry for the ones who lost everything to the fire in Cedar City.

My first post

So I have decided to start a little online journal for my family to keep in touch with what I am doing after I move *SO FAR AWAY* as my mom would like to put it! Hehe. I don't have much to talk about right now but I know I will once I start my adventure in Washington State! I am starting school there where I will hopefully finish college and become something great! I have twenty-four days until I move and truly I am ready to leave. I am pretty much all packed up, I am just waiting for my brother to come down here and haul everything for me. I love my family! They always drop whatever they're doing to help me. I couldn't ask for a better family. This is just the start to a wonderful relationship between me and this blog. I hope you all stick around 'til the end. I want to give a big HELLO! to my mom, brothers and sister. I probably won't write everyday until I actually have something exciting to say other than "I sat on the couch today" hehe!
